Learn about the Colcom Foundation
The Colcom Foundation, located in
Southwestern Pennsylvania and founded by Cordelia S. May, supports many
national projects that focus on creating a better balance between nature and
people. May’s original mission focused on family planning. This was because our
local population growth can quickly grow out of hand and become overwhelming to
nature. It was May’s humanitarian approach that led the Colcom Foundation to
become what it is today.
The foundation makes a point to show that humans harm natural habitats in a variety
of ways, and it is our job to correct it. As of January 2024, they have three
main funding interests. To begin, they review carrying capacity. Colcom Foundation’s resources acknowledge how the growth of the
human population impacts the environment. The primary points that they share on
carrying capacity focus on family planning and immigration. Secondly, the
foundation reviews aspects of the local environment. They support multiple conservation,
grassroots, and research projects in Southwest Pennsylvania.
These projects include but are not limited to Hollow Oak Land Trust, The Environmental Integrity Project,
The Student Conservation Association, and The Western Pennsylvania
Conservancy’s Revolving Fund for Local Land Trusts. Lastly, the Colcom
Foundation has funding interests in their local community. They support health,
safety, education, arts, and development in their local community. Some of the
projects that they support for their local community include Community Kitchen
Pittsburgh, Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, and Carnegie Museum of
Natural History.
It focuses on improving the quality of life for locals and sharing valuable
information with humans who can make a change in the world. The Foundation
truly focuses on increasing the quality of life for everyday people by
supporting over twenty different organizations. Their unique and kind approach
to prioritizing the environment and combatting overpopulation creates a
positive space for people to help each other in countless ways. See related link for additional
